i-pissed-in-your-mouth-then-i:
it doesn’t matter what i think about it. a young man named Mike Brown was murdered and a jury elected to not even indict the confessed killer with any charges. that’s the fact of the case. a whole city has been terrorized by the people sworn to “protect and serve” them. that’s the reality of Ferguson. It’s not my place to interject on this issue though. this systematic and racial injustice is not about me because I am white and middle class.
it is about you. you’re still human.
when people who look like me are gunned down in the street while walking home, then it’ll be about me. when people who look like me are labeled “thug” or are automatically assumed to be dangerous because of their skin color, then it’ll be about me. when a jury will fail to even indict a murder who shot someone who looked like me despite eye witness testimony, then it’ll be about me. this is not a “human” issue. this is about race in america. yes, everyone should be outraged. yes, everyone should be doing something. but do not for a second make this about anything other than an example of white supremacy in 2014. i am white. i will never go through these things. i completely understand that. that’s why this isn’t about me. that’s why what i have to say doesn’t fucking matter. i’m going to do whatever i can from spreading information, to donating to jailed protesters. but if anyone who is white thinks that is about them, then they have their heads so far up their own asses i’m surprised they can function.
and this is also SUCH a great example of white liberalism. you see a tragedy. you think “i would never condone such awful things” you join in. but at no point have you listened or talked to the people directly hurt by this. most black people that i have talked to or heard from really are sick of white people interjecting on this. and that’s all i’m saying. i’m respecting the people most hurt. i’m here to help however they want, but it’s not my place to speak over them.
