Nick Cave and Roland S. Howard.  There’s an interesting story behind this photo.

The Birthday Party was touring Australia at the time, and they used this photo to promote one of their shows.  When some of the venues saw their promotional posters, they cancelled the gig.

I think this is funny, because The Birthday Party was renowned as “the most violent band in the world.”  So basically, these venues are saying:

“It’s OK if you throw bricks at cars.  It’s OK if you smash full pitchers of beer over the heads of our patrons.  It’s OK if you smash our equipment.  It’s OK if you attempt to strangle people you don’t like with microphone chords.  It’s OK if you set your guitars on fire.  BUT IT’S NOT OK to have two goths lying in bed together, one without a shirt on, looking inquisitively at something behind the camera.”
